The BEACON - BESLER Consulting
Winter 2010

It looks like 2010 will be another challenging year for healthcare when we couple the still struggling economy with the uncertainty around healthcare reform.  It seems like just when we think we know the direction we are heading, the course suddenly changes.  Who would have predicted such an incredible turn of events with regard to reform – that the Senate seat held for 46 years by reform’s arguably biggest advocate, Democrat Ted Kennedy, is won by a Republican which eliminates the Democrats’ super majority in the Senate?  In one fell swoop, everything changes.  No longer is the question, “what will reform look like?” but rather, “will there be reform?”  These events were almost Shakespearean.

Then again, in healthcare we are used to dealing with uncertainty.  BESLER Consulting prides itself on helping our clients to navigate through that uncertainty.  Whether that be dealing with complex reimbursement regulations, addressing coding and medical necessity concerns or identifying revenue recovery opportunities, BESLER is here for you.  With the numerous demands placed on providers every day, we see ourselves as an extension of your staff, ready to fill your specific needs in the functional areas of revenue cycle, compliance, reimbursement, coding and accreditation.  We bring true value to your operations as we work closely with you to achieve your goals.

So, as you balance the multiple priorities of dealing with Medicare Bad Debt, IME/GME reimbursement, the ever-present challenges of DSH documentation, coordinating your compliance and revenue assurance initiatives, reviewing your cost report and wage index data, and responding to the RACs, remember that we are here.  Our experienced staff complements your internal efforts and resources to allow you to achieve all of your objectives.  If in doubt, call us to discuss how we can help you address your 2010 priorities and goals.

Our purpose is “to improve the health of the healthcare community through unmatched solutions.”  Those solutions don’t come in a box or simply in a series of reports.  Solutions come from carefully evaluating the need or the opportunity and strategically applying resources so that a positive outcome is accomplished.  We are about action, not contemplation.  Results, not lengthy reports.  We apply our knowledge and experience to your unique situation so that you are satisfied with the results.

We wish you the best for 2010 and I hope that you enjoy this issue of the BESLER Beacon.  We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

It has been a long winter and spring is just around the corner – hang in there.

Very truly yours,

Brian P. Sherin, FHFMA
