Besler Consulting

BESLER PRESS RELEASE

Besler Consulting, a New Jersey health care consulting firm, today announced that the company has reached an agreement to settle with the federal government regarding the Medicare outlier program. The parties' agreement relates to a longstanding dispute concerning increased Medicare outlier reimbursement received by hundreds of hospitals throughout the country, a few of which were clients of Besler Consulting. In agreeing to settle, Besler made no admission of fault or wrongdoing regarding the consulting services it provided to its hospital clients.

"Our concern has always been for the welfare of our hospital clients and the communities that they serve," stated Phil Besler, the company's founder and CEO. "I continue to believe strongly that our clients and our firm have acted squarely in accordance with the Medicare laws and that we would have won had this gone to trial. However, a consulting firm like ours simply cannot afford to fight the full power of the federal government and its endless resources." He pointed out that his decision to bring this to an end was an extremely difficult decision, based on the balancing of several business factors.

Under the settlement, Besler will pay the government $2.875 million. Mr. Besler stated that this action is in the best interest of Besler Consulting and its employees and will allow the company to move forward and focus its resources on addressing the needs of its hospital clients. According to Mr. Besler, the payment amount is measurably less than the financial and resource burden that would have been shouldered by his firm had he pursued resolution of this matter through the courts.

Besler Consulting was formed in 1986, and has been instrumental since then in identifying strategies for hospitals to increase revenues appropriately in order to remain solvent in a hostile economic environment.
